No Longer a Newborn

We are madly in love with this dimple-cheeked (one on each side, the right one is bigger :-),
big blue eyed,
THREE MONTH OLD baby boy!! Who, by the way, is officially an infant and no longer a newborn.
SO much has changed this month. Here is a little bit about Matthew at 3 months:
***The biggest and BEST change this month is that we started Matthew on a new formula for babies with colic (which he definitely has...it got even worse this past month and the poor boy would scream for hours and hours on end) called Nutramigen. It costs an arm and a leg (nicknamed liquid gold) but it's AMAZING. The formula is already broken down so the colicky baby's immature digestive system doesn't have to do the "work". The MOMENT we gave the formula to Matthew, his tummy stopped hurting him...he quit screaming while eating, he became a very happy baby during the day, he started taking longer naps, he started sleeping through the night, and just became an overall completely different baby. SO WISH I HAD GIVEN MATTHEW NUTRAMIGEN SOONER THAN I DID. Not that I have strong feelings about it or anything :-) It was just so hard to see Matthew in pain and to hear him cry knowing there was nothing I could do to make him feel better. I seriously want to write the makers of Nutramigen a letter telling them "thank you" for making my baby feel better when I couldn't. It changed all of our lives this month and we are so so so thankful.
***Now that we can see Matthew's REAL personality beyond the colic...he's one smiley, happy, bubbly boy who is super interested in infant toys/rattles, his hands and feet, and grasping onto anything and everything (especially my hair, ouch!)
***Matthew started rolling over this month (12 weeks to be exact) from tummy to back
***He loves to "talk" just like his mommy and sister...favorite "words" right now are agoo, geee, gah, and lots of high pitched squeals and little giggles
***speaking of, we heard Matthew's first giggle this month...still waiting on a big belly laugh
***The boy LOVES his bumbo and would sit in it all day if his little neck would let him
***Matthew also loves to lay on his playmat and now grabs at his toys and holds onto them
***Still loves the bouncy seat
***Enjoys tummy time when he can look at himself in a mirror
***Sometimes can't/won't drink his bottle because he won't stop looking up at me and smiling SO big
***LOVES his sister and will look around for her anytime he hears her voice...she also is able to get some of the biggest grins out of Matthew. I love watching them start to interact more. Matthew even got to attend one of Caroline's tea parties this month...lucky guy (that's another blog post of course :-)
***He is such a momma's boy already and wants to usually only be held by me (I secretly love this although I know it might be a problem at some point)
***Matthew is on a much improved sleep schedule: he takes about four naps/day with the morning one being long (usually about two hours) and the other three ranging anywhere from 1 1/2 hours to 45 minutes...which is usually his last short nap of the day), he gets a dream feeding around 10:30 then sleeps until 7 or 7:30 am. He's doing so good compared to where he was a few weeks ago, and we're so proud of him!
***I got on the scale with him yesterday and he weighs almost 14 pounds!
***He's BARELY in size 1 diapers and 0-3 month clothes...any day now we'll be movin' on up to size 2 diapers and 3-6 month size clothes
***He eats anywhere from 4-6 ounces every 3 to 3 1/2 hours during the day
***Matthew is able to stay up about 1 1/2 hours at the most right now and usually it's only about an hour of waketime before he starts fussing for some sleep.

The colic has been hard to deal with, I'm not gonna lie. But we are so crazy about Matthew. He's just so precious and we love his little personality that is now shining through. I am LOVING being a boy mom and feel such a special bond with my baby boy. Our little guy has completely stolen our hearts and we couldn't love him anymore than we do!!! Happy 3 Month Birthday buddy!!!
