Phrase of the Week

Caroline started saying a new phrase this week..."No way, Mommy!!!" (or daddy, or insert whoever she might be talking to :-) I think it's funny now, but I'm sure it won't be cute for long. I tried to get her saying it on video today. It didn't work because the moment I turned on the camera, the little stinker quickly changed her tune...she's being pretty silly but you get the idea:

Celebration

This past weekend was Matt's 30th birthday, and we had a good ole' time celebrating the big day!
Friday night, we went out to dinner with both of our families then came back to our house for cake and presents.
The birthday boy at dinner
Sitting in a "big" chair waiting for her high chair
A birthday in our family wouldn't be complete without a yummy Casa Linda birthday cake...I could eat the whole thing...but I didn't :-)
Enjoying the singing
Caroline kept wanting bites of the "happy birthday cake" (as she called it). Of course, Mimi gave them to her...she's such a softie :-)
Helping Daddy open presents
I think he liked this one ;-)
Our families...I cut off Nannie, oops
Saturday day/night was full of surprises for Matt. Saturday morning, I sent him off to have a massage. We have had quite a stressful start to 2010, and I wanted Matt's birthday to be all about fun and relaxation. After his massage, we dropped Caroline off at my mom's house for the rest of the day/night (thanks mom!!) and headed to the movies to see Avatar. It was sold out (even though it was the middle of the day on a Saturday and has been out forever...it must be good) so we settled for a long lunch at Luna instead. Then we headed to the W Hotel for a little getaway, just the two of us!!
The view of downtown from our room
The hotel had this little birthday surprise waiting for Matt when we got to our room. We munched on the chips and salsa and watched a movie (The Informant with Matt Damon...we thought it was funny...I'd recommend it).
Saturday night, we ate at this restaurant and enjoyed a nice, long dinner...one of our favorite things to do.
I can't believe Matt is 30 (which means that I turn 30 soon too)!! We've almost known each other 1/2 of our entire lives now which is so crazy to think about. Matt and I talked a lot about his twenties and what he thinks his thirties will be like. We are excited about this new chapter!! Bring on the 30s :-)

Random Cuteness & a Funny Conversation

Just a random video of miss cutie pa-tootie (with a very brief almost-two-year-old tantrum mixed in):

I also had a funny conversation with Caroline today. It went something like this (while we were looking out the window watching the rain):

Caroline: "Look mommy, I see flamingo"

Me: "A flamingo???" (I looked in the direction she was looking and saw a squirrel) "Do you mean a squirrel?"

Caroline: "Yeah" (said in an exasperated that's-what-I-said kind of tone) "A sworl!!"

I have no idea why she thought to call the squirrel a flamingo. I'm sure she didn't know the name "squirrel" but you would think she would have called it a kitty or something like that. But no, flamingo is what popped into her head. Funny girl :-)

And they call it puppy love...

Please meet Abby (or "Abby Puppy" as Caroline likes to call her), the newest addition to our extended family. Matt's parents, Mimi and PopPop, brought Abby home right after Christmas. She is so so adorable.

Caroline, pretending to take a nap with Abby:

Caroline likes Abby but only on her terms. If Abby comes up to Caroline and wants to play, Caroline says "no puppy no puppy no puppy" over and over. When Caroline has had enough of Abby, she climbs up in PopPop's chair to "escape":

Welcome to the family, Abby! So glad you're not living at our house! ;-)

There's a First Time for Everything...

...and this weekend was Caroline's FIRST haircut. I can't believe she almost made it to her 2nd birthday without a haircut. But the scraggly (sp??), mullet-style just wasn't working for her anymore :-) So Matt, Caroline and I headed over to Snip-Its yesterday for the big cut.
Here is a before pic:
At first, Caroline was not happy and I thought we were in for a very difficult first haircut...
...but then she quickly realized there was a sucker in her hand and a show on the t.v. in front of her. Those frowns quickly turned into BIG smiles...whew!

I knew Caroline wouldn't like having her hair blow-dried but I couldn't let her walk outside in the frigid temps with wet hair. So she suffered through it like a champ.
And here is an after shot (it's not great b/c Caroline wanted OUT of that chair):
We think Caroline's hair looks so cute. All in all, a great first haircut experience!!

HELP!!!

I'm trying to make a new header for my blog and am having the HARDEST time. Now, I totally get why people pay other people to design their blog. I'm still trying to avoid that part if possible and would like to do it myself. But I can't figure out how to get my pictures/text into headers and then get them onto my blog. Can I just use Picasa or do I need another type of photo editing software? If you have an advice/info, please share!!!
