Caroline decided to take her FIRST STEPS last night!!! Matt had just gotten home from work (which was great...I really hoped Caroline would take her first steps while he was home), and we thought we'd see if she'd walk to me from him. And she did it! She took about 3 steps back and forth between us a few times. After that, we started backing away from her and she would take a few more steps. I think the most she took was 9 or 10. Her balance still isn't great, and I think it will be a long time before she's really walking around. But seeing her take some independent steps was exciting nonetheless. We caught her walking on video...here it is:

Almost one year ago...
...this was me.
I can't believe how huge I was!! That is one large belly. Matt and I have been talking a lot lately about "this time last year". I was 38 weeks pregnant and we were anxiously awaiting Caroline's birth. We were dying to know what she looked like and what her personality was going to be like. I realized the other day that I started this blog after Caroline was born and have never told her birth story. Here is a very modified version so that Caroline can look back one day and read all about it.
The last few weeks of my pregnancy were a little difficult. I had all the usual discomforts but my blood pressure started climbing also. My doctor (Dr. N) started seeing me every 3-4 days during the last 3 weeks of my pregnancy to monitor my blood pressure. When I went in at 39 1/2 weeks preggo, my body had had enough of pregnancy and my blood pressure had skyrocketed! I was shocked. It had been somewhat high but nothing scary up to that point...Matt wasn't even at the appt. with me b/c we were sure the numbers were going to look the same as they did 3 days before. Well, that was not the case. Dr. N, without any hesitation, said that this day (Friday, April 4th 2008) was going to be Caroline's birthday. I started crying for many different reasons: #1) Matt wasn't there, #2) I was about to meet my daughter and was super excited, #3) I was going to have a c-section and was REALLY scared about the surgery. Dr. N did not think an induction was safe given how high my blood pressure was. Long story short, I called Matt immediately and he raced home from work, I went home to pack up a few things, then we went back to the hospital and I got prepped for surgery. I was still so disappointed I didn't get to have a "normal" delivery but cared more about Caroline's health and my health at this point so I felt okay. All in all, Dr. N did the most amazing job and the c-section was no big deal. And when Caroline was born everything became very exciting. Here's the little face I got to see almost one year ago today (she still makes this same pouty face when she gets upset)...
...and almost one year later, who knew that this would be the same sweet little girl?!? What a difference 1 year makes!!!

P.S.--this has nothing to do with my post, but look who might be getting her mommy's curls...at least I hope this is the case b/c I have NO idea how to style straight hair :-)

More Fun with Friends!!
Lately, Caroline has had some more fun times with her friends. Today, my Watermark playgroup met at church in the "mat" room. It was so fun! The room is like a mini play gym and has all sorts of fun, cushy mats, slides, balls, etc... to safely play/crawl around/fall on. All the kids had a blast. I think we'll be making many more trips back to the mat room!!
Caroline loved playing with this "baw"

Sitting with Parker (notice a trend??...Caroline was the only girl in our playgroup today :-)
Last Saturday, we had supper club at our house. All the baby girls were there (we missed you, James!!).

Our Rainy Day
There are lots of fun things to do on a cold, rainy day while mommy satisfies some obsessive compulsive tendencies cleans the house. It's always fun to...
...make silly faces,
read all of my favorite books, cuddle with my baby, crawl through my learning home, play with shapes,
eat a yummy lunch (goldfish, carrots, turkey & yogurt),
play some more with puzzles and call the cat a "duck" over and over b/c it's yellow :-),
pull up on everything in sight including the yucky diaper genie,
and last but not least, sing "The Itsy Bitsy Spider"!!
Mommy's Disclaimer...please read before watching video: Okay, this is the MOST embarrassing video I've posted so far (I say so far b/c I'm sure there will be more to come). Anyway, Caroline just started TRYING to do the motions for this song and I thought it was too cute of HER not to post. BUT, she'll only do it for some reason if I sing in this horrifying, high pitched voice. So please ignore my terrible terrible singing and just watch her (actually, you'll probably get a good laugh at my expense but that's okay :-) Anyway, Caroline loses interest halfway through but you get the idea. She has loved this song since she was born and it's fun to see her start to put some modified motions with it!! Oh, also, the reason why she stands at the door at the end and says "dada" over & over, is b/c she watches Matt do yard work or grill out in the backyard sometimes so she now thinks he should be out there ALL the time.

Caroline's 1st Trip to Colorado
Whew!! We have just returned from a whirlwind trip to Colorado. My dad, his wife Cindy, and my dad's side of the family all live in Boulder. We thought it was a good time to take Caroline on her first trip to Colorado for some fun family time and some skiing (for us, not Caroline :-)
4 out of 5 Berg cousins have all had babies in the past couple of years and it was so fun to get everyone together (minus my brother and my cousin Amanda...who has a 13 month old daughter named Eloise...we missed you guys!!)
Pictured below: my cousin Katie and her daughter Emma who is one day younger than Caroline (they were actually born less than 24 hours apart), Caroline and me, and my cousin Justin with his two kids, 2 year old Gus and 4 month old Lily

Fun play time
Emma and Caroline loved each other and had so much fun together (even though they wanted the same toys...Emma was so sweet to share and Caroline needs a little lesson in sharing :-)
The two buddies
After seeing our sweet fam, we headed up to Winter Park for some skiing. The first morning we were there, Caroline decided to feed herself some oatmeal. She surprisingly did pretty well.

For some reason, Caroline got really upset when we put on our helmets and ski goggles. I guess we looked really different/a little scary to her. Here she is checking out Matt, not sure what to think:
By far, Caroline's FAVORITE thing to do on the trip was sit in the sled and be pulled around in the snow. She loved it!!
Everytime the sled stopped, Caroline tried to sign "more". But she couldn't get her hands together in that huge snowsuit. It was really funny. Here she is TRYING to get her hands together to tell us she wants more sledding:
My dad a.k.a. Grandad and Caroline. It snowed about 8 inches the first day we were there.
The next day was beautiful...bright blue sky and sunny
